March 4, 2010 - PRLog -- Grace Centers of Hope, Oakland County’s largest homeless shelter, is encouraging metro Detroit area residents to take advantage of the cold days spent indoors to do some early spring-cleaning.  No longer wanted but saleable clothing, furniture, and other household items can be donated to the organization’s four thrift stores.

All proceeds from the sale of donated items will be used to support Grace Centers of Hope’s Emergency Shelter, One Year Life Skills Program for men and women, Children’s Programs, and After Care Programs.

“The largest growing segment of our homeless population in southeast Michigan is families with children,” said Darin Weiss, chief operating officer for Grace Centers of Hope.  “Through the proceeds generated by our Grace Centers of Hope Thrift Stores, we can continue to provide assistance to those individuals with the greatest of need.”

The Grace Centers of Hope Thrift Stores are located in Waterford, Sterling Heights and two in Warren.  Items can be dropped off at Grace Centers of Hope in Pontiac or at each store location.  Large donations, such as pieces of furniture or many bags of goods, can be scheduled for a truck pick up within Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties.

“This is an excellent time of year to find items in your home or apartment that you will never use again and put them to good use,” said Weiss.  “Additionally, customers find our Thrift Stores as an excellent shopping resource for a number of goods, including jeans for a growing teen, jewelry, a set of dishes, toys, a bookshelf, or a kitchen table and chairs.”

The four stores have recently been renovated and two were expanded to better handle customer demand.  Many of the staff members at the Thrift Stores are in Grace Centers of Hope programs and are putting their new work skills to good use.  Others are successful graduates of the program.

The Grace Centers of Hope Thrift Stores are open Monday through Saturday.  Their locations are:

Sterling Heights – 43584 Van Dyke – (586) 997-9942
Warren – 11 Mile Location, 26740 Dequindre Road – (586) 582-9334
Warren – 8 Mile Location, 13859 E. 8 Mile Road – (586) 447-0800
Waterford – 5919 Highland Road – (248) 618-7057
