DENVER- Canine Partners of the Rockies (CaPR), a nonprofit agency that raises, trains and places service dogs with mobility impaired Colorado residents, is proud to announce a program and expansion by offering new placement opportunities for dogs. Facilitated service dogs and therapy dogs are the two new positions.
Facilitated service dogs assist people with mobility limiting disabilities by performing services similar to those of a service dog, but with the assistance of a facilitator. This facilitator, usually a parent, spouse or caregiver is responsible for the care of the dog. This team has public access, just as a service dog does team. Therapy dogs are placed in an institutional setting with a physical therapist, speech therapist or any other health care professional. Unlike service dogs or facilitated service dogs, therapy dogs will do not have public access.
With the addition of these two positions to CaPR’s program, the organization can improve and enrich the lives of mobility impaired Colorado residents to a greater degree. By adding these new positions, CaPR will also be is able to utilize their resources and the dogs’ abilities to their greatest potential.
