Surf Photographers are all over the world! you might see empty beaches with quality surf / no one shooting and some famous quality beaches with tons of surfers and surf photographers sitting on a beach with a 600 mm lens and a laptop ready to sell and make the bling bling.

There are many differences in between a water shot photographer and a land photographer.

To start, one is in the ocean and the other is on main land.

Water Shot Photographer:  Fights rip tides

Land Surf Photographer: Sits on his behind under a shaded area with music and sometimes even a drink.

Water Shot Photographer: Trains its body in order to move fast and position it self in the right spot.

Land Photographer: Trains the eye and hand to move a tripod.

Water Shot Photographer: uses a short range lense 10 mm in most cases so they need to be close to the object.

Land Photographer: uses a 400 - 600 mm in most cases can be in his condo shooting.

Water Shot Photographer: needs to watch for sharks, barracudas and other animals that can kill you in the ocean.

Land Photographer: needs to watch for ugly woman hitting on them and mosquitoes.

Water Shot Photographer: needs to stretch arms, neck, legs in order to handle hours of holding a 4lb camera and swimming around heavy waves.

Land Photographer: needs a comfortable chair to sit on

Water Shot Photographer: Needs to find a way to promote his shots, when you are in the water there  is no way you can pass the pictures right away.

Land Photographer: Has a laptop, usb, cd and access to sell right away.

There are many other things that are different about taking shots inside and outside the water. The bottom line is, if you ever get charged a bit more by a water shot surf photographer make sure you understand its way harder than just sitting at the beach.
