By: Charlotte Ginibun Jointly organised by The Federation of Sabah Manufacturers (FSM), Malaysia International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) Sabah Branch and the Ministry of industrial Development Sabah (MID), SIE is a Sabah State Government sanctioned biennial event. The objectives of the SIE are : • To create the awareness on the potential of Sabah to the regional and international market, particularly on the trade and investment opportunities in the : - Agriculture, Tourism and Manufacturing sectors; - BIMP-EAGA (Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia- • To promote Sabah as the MICE hub for the surrounding region, especially in the context of BIMP-EAGA; • To serve as a platform and conducive environment for both public and private sectors to network, establish contacts and strategic business ties among local and international businessmen. The last 5 SIE’s were continuously supported by the State Government of Sabah, in particular the Ministry of Industrial Development (MID) together with the Department of Industrial Development and Research (DIDR). The Ministry of Agriculture & Food Industry (MAFI) supported the SIE by introducing Agriculture booth pavilion during the last expo in 2008. The recent and striking SIE2008 alone had brought together 50,000 visitors and 29 different international countries partaking in the trade fair. The prestigious 4 day expo has a total number of almost 400 booths making it the biggest exposition held in Sabah. MATRADE has endorsed SIE as an international event that enables SMEs in Malaysia to showcase their products and claims for 50% of their expenses through the Market Development Grant (MDG), while the BIMP-EAGA has also recognised SIE as a major event that creates networking opportunities for other countries to learn more about this region and its potentials. Promotions that were carried out locally as well as internationally has definitely put the State of Sabah on the map of the world. Indeed it has shaped the awareness on the potential of its trade and investment opportunities in KKIP, POIC and SDC. The 6th SIE in year 2010 is set to be better that its previous success promising a much wider target and goal. More local and international participants will be showcasing their products and service promotions and advertisements will be done on a higher scope attracting more visitors locally, regionally and internationally. # # # The SIE (Sabah,Malaysia) End
