The world renowned clear blue waters of Grace Bay, Providenciales ("Provo") will soon be the venue for the first Turks & Caicos "Race for the Conch" 1 Mile Eco-SeaSwim on Saturday July 10, 2010. "All the stops have been pulled to make this a great, fun-filled event that will appeal to competitive racers, as well as swimmers new to open water swimming who want to challenge themselves in an ideal environment,"
Caesar Campell, CEO of the Turks & Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association, remarked, "The Turks and Caicos Islands are known as a water-based destination with one of the longest barrier reefs in the world, and its world-class beach on Grace Bay. Therefore, it is only fitting that we would host a special event of this nature to showcase what mother nature has bestowed on us on Grace Bay Beach."
The race, which has also been certified by Green Globe as an ecologically responsible event, aims to raise awareness of the need to protect fragile reefs and oceans as well as promote the sport of open water swimming. It will also raise funds for charities that support programs for children in the Turks & Caicos and Haiti. Special discount hotel packages have been created for swimmers and spectators through Marco Travel at www.marcotravel.tc.
