Taxes, Taxes, Who Wants To Pay Taxes?

It's that time of year again and even though the topic can be a bit dry, dealing with the IRS and taxes is unavoidable.  This year we've put together a panel of accounting wizards willing to take on any & all questions.  So bring your toughest questions and expect some valuable tips so you pay the government less of your hard earned money.  

Their panel includes:


Larry Abela, CMA, CNA: A Michigan native who attended Oakland University for a Business degree concentration in Accounting.  He has over 10 years of experience assisting individuals and small business owners from his sole practitioner office in Royal Oak.  He’s written several business articles and also invests his time in community organizations.



Bryan L. Wright, CPA, MST:  A Walsh graduate with Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Masters in Taxation, he joined McClain, Smith & Wenz, P.C. in 1996, becoming a partner in 2003.  He lives in Rochester with his family and chairs Board of Directors of the Rochester Avon Recreation Authority and is a member of the Rochester Lions Club.



Susan M. Virgin, CPA:  An MSU grad who spent 20 years in retail before joining Derderian, Kann, Seyferth & Salucci, P.C. in 2000.  Today she leads her firm’s small business initiative, providing setup, training and technical support for QuickBooks.  She’s a member of the AICPA, MACPA, AGN International and is a facilitator for the Walsh College Leadership Institute.



Lisa Martin, CPA, MST:  A CPA since 1988, holds a Masters in Taxation and is a published author on real estate tax issues.  Began her career with a real estate syndicator in private equity funding and then moved on to Deloitte Haskins & Sells where she managed their real estate tax practice.  In 1990 she became VP of Finance for a Detroit area commercial developer and has been independent since 1994.



Please Join them for an informative evening.  There are many new laws going into affect.  There will be ample time for all questions.

It is not necessary to attend all night.

About REIA of Oakland

REIA of Oakland is a non-profit organization founded in 1981 run entirely by volunteers.  Our goals include providing education to our members, providing professional networking, and monitoring the political and legislative environment as it affects the real estate investment business.  Our meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at the MSU Management Education Center in Troy, 811 West Square Lake Road Troy, MI 48098  Click here for a map.


The meetings begin at 5:30pm with an hour and a half of networking and an informal Early Bird Q&A session.  The seminar portion of the meeting runs from 7:15-9:30pm. Each month we have a different guest speaker, including national speakers on topics useful to  real estate investors. The formal presentation is followed by a question and answer session.
