Reading, PA—John Elder Robison, author of the bestselling memoir, Look Me In The Eye, will speak to an audience eager for insights into Autism at the 2nd Annual Autism in Berks County Conference and Resource Fair to be held at Bernardine Hall, on the campus of Alvernia University, on Saturday, March 13, 2010, hosted by a partnership of area not-for-profit organizations including: Easter Seals Eastern PA; United Way of Berks County; Autism Society of Berks County; Berks County Intermediate Unit; Berks County MH/MR Program; and Services Access and Management, Inc..
John Elder Robison grew up with Asperger’s at a time when the diagnosis didn’t exist, and with no inkling of how to pass for normal. He was finally diagnosed at age forty. Asperger syndrome is an autism spectrum disorder, and people with it therefore show significant difficulties in social interaction, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests.
In his talks, Robison shows how he overcame enormous odds to lead a fulfilling life. Though his life is unique – having designed guitars for KISS and toys for Milton Bradley – it’s equally rich with clues to both spotting autism in children and harnessing the best from those already diagnosed.
