Bruised fresh leaves are  intensely aromatic and have a musky, spicy odor with a citrus note. Rich in iron, vitamin A and C. It is extensively used in cooking in South India. Sri Lankan curry powder is curry leaf rich. I make a great chutney with curry leaf, cilantro and mint- tasty and good for you!
Harvesting Curry Leaves
Leaves are available for picking in the tropics for twelve months. The stems are shipped fresh in small bundles for sale in grocery stores. Curry leaf is extensively used in vegetarian cooking in Gujrat. They are also used in long- simmered meat stews and in fish curries of Kerala. Indian emigrants took curry leafs to Fiji, while others made it an important ingredient in South African Tamil cooking. Curry leaf combines well with fish, lamb, lentils, rice and most vegetables -a Chef’s delight!
