Oman Air Commodore To Open Middle East Air Power Event

Continued growth in the regional industry sees more high-profile attention paid to aviation technologies event

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Mar 03, 2010 -
Organisers of Defence IQ’s Air Power Middle East 2010 have announced that the event will be opened by Air Commodore Maktoum bin Salim al-Mazroi of the Royal Oman Air Force.

With the Middle East home to some of the biggest spending nations when it comes to the procurement and production of both commercial aviation, organised briefings on the subject are essential. The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia have both signed deals in the past few months with leading companies to expand their air capabilities, respectively securing transport carriers and advanced engines.

Recently, countries within the Gulf Cooperation Council have been hinting that the future plans for many Middle Eastern nations will be to develop fully self-sufficient local production of defence and aviation resources. At the same time, the Emiri Air Force has now opened its new Aviation College, which will train pilots on three year courses, and will include access to other GCC states under the umbrella of joint cooperation.

The Air Power Middle East 2010 forum intends to offer an opportunity to understand the demands of the region, to meet key figures in a relaxed and personal environment, and to develop a better idea of the issues driving Middle Eastern air forces.

It will examine the ideal aircraft and systems at hand and analyse relevant platforms across fast jet, airlift, special mission air craft and helicopter. Focus will turn to training and simulation, airborne early warning, logistic support, maintenance and regional cooperation for the future.

Other early senior level confirmations for include Major General (ret) Saber al-Suwaidan, former Commander of KAF who will be speaking on GCC relations with Iran and the overall role of Air Power; Brigadier General Giovanni Fantuzzi, Chief of Plans and Policy Division, Italian Air Force who will be discussing the role of Air Power in planning for future challenges; and Commodore (ret) Seshadri Vasan, Indian Navy to be talking on the significance of aviation platforms in controlling piracy and policing the sea.

A number of leading companies in the industry are sponsoring the event, including Saab, Rolls-Royce and Thales.
