Breast Cancer Survivor Appointed to Board of Directors

Crystal Brown-Tatum has accepted an appointment to the Board of Directors for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Northwest Louisiana Affiliate. The affiliate serves ten parishes in Northwest Louisiana including Caddo, Bossier, Webster, Claiborne, DeSoto, Red River, Bienville, Sabine, Natchitoches, and Winn.

“As a young survivor, I know first hand the important role an organization like Susan G. Komen for the Cure provides for patients, survivors and those affected by the devastating impact of breast cancer,” says Brown-Tatum. “I hope to bring the patient perspective to the Board and be an instrumental voice in ensuring that everyone is aware of their personal risks and breast health.”

Brown-Tatum is the Founder and President of Crystal Clear Communications; a Houston based firm, with a Shreveport, Louisiana office, which specializes in advertising and public relations. She is also the author of “Saltwater Taffy and Red High Heels: My Journey through Breast Cancer.” The book details the author’s journey from diagnosis through surgery, chemotherapy and radiation to the one year survival mark. Diagnosed with stage IIIA breast cancer in April of 2007, she has become a dedicated advocate to raising awareness of the disease particularly in young women and African-American women.

Since her diagnosis, Brown-Tatum has been featured as a survivor on several community affairs televison programs, radio shows as well as being featured in national magazines.
