We envisaged what a future African ice age would look like and what the future fashion maverick would wear. As a brand we believe individuals should not be dictated to, telling them what to wear and when to wear it and as such we have always catered to those who would rather discover fashion in a more personal way experimenting with different patterns and shapes. In the same way we're always pushing the boundaries of what African fabrics can do and for this collection created a new genre of fashion - 'Concept Couture'.
It's not couture as you'd know it but a challenge on the status of traditional African culture. We used this collection to pioneer a new vision for the scope and versatility of our fabrics. Take gele for example, traditionally used as a head tie for special occasions we have used to make skirts and Balmain-esque blazers. Impossible you may say (especially those who are familiar with the material) but we're always up for a challenge and we believe we achieved what we set out to: reinventing an old, unchanging staple into an exciting and innovative product.
The collection isn't for the faint-hearted and whilst it's not exactly ready to wear (although if you think you can pull it off don't let us stop you, after all fashion is supposed to be fun) it should be appreciated as our interpretation of the changes in African fashion and where we are taking the African fashion industry. There's a lot of emerging African talent in the industry as of late and we believe we stand out because of the attitude with which we approach our fabrics. After all who dictates what African fabrics can or can't do?
