CAMEL lifts 700 lbs.

March 2, 2010 - PRLog -- The CAMEL (Complete Air Moving Elevating Lift) is designed to lift some one that has fallen.  It is powered by the battery operated Airflo air compressor.  The CAMEL consists of 4 lower chambers and a backrest section that is used to sit the person up.

It is well documented that healthcare workers have the highest number of back and shoulder injuries of any workforce in the United States.  One of the biggest causes is lifting people that have fallen.  

The CAMEL was first designed and marketed in the UK by Mangar International.  The CAMEL has become standard equipment on most ambulances in the UK.  Mangar USA distributes the CAMEL throughout North America.

The CAMEL can be used in any setting where there is an issue with people falling down and are unable to get up on their own.  Assisted Living Centers, Nursing Homes, Hospitals, Clinics, Ambulance services, Fire Departments and any public facility such as stadiums/arenas are potential locations for the CAMEL.  As the average age and weight of Americans increases, the risk of injury to the care givers increases.  It is not unusual for a Fire Department to bring 6 or 8 or MORE people to help pick up a person weighing more than 400 lbs.  This is poor use of tax dollars.   In many health care settings, it is not unusual to call 911 just to pick someone up, rather than risk their staff being injured while lifting.

When the CAMEL is deflated, the lifting cushion is less than 1 inch thick.  The CAMEL cushion is attached to the Airflo compressor.  The person to be lifted is placed on their side, the deflated cushion is placed against their back and the person is rolled onto the cushion.  After they are properly positioned on the cushion, the CAMEL is inflated a section at a time until the person is 22" above the floor.   At this point, the person can either stand up or transfer to a chair.

Using the CAMEL, one person can easily and safely lift a person weight up to 700 lbs.

The CAMEL is made from durable nylon and when inflated is extremely rigid.  The inflation time is just over 3 minutes.  All components of the CAMEL are guaranteed for two years.
