The Metropolitan Pima Alliance’s annual event, the 2010 Wild Ride, will offer rare insights on corporate relocation decisions.
MPA, a Tucson-based public policy organization, shifted the scope of its annual event to economic development from land use planning to give the community an insider’s view and understanding of why our region was selected — or not selected — for major economic development projects.
The 2010 Wild Ride takes place from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, at the Pima Air and Space Museum, 6000 E. Valencia Road in Tucson.
During the event, commercial developer Lincoln Properties, which is involved with the 54-acre University of Arizona Bioscience Park, will explain its decision to invest in the local project. National real estate company Forest Cities will also present on why Albuquerque, rather than Tucson, became the site for the Mesa del Sol mixed-use development.
Other participating companies include those with a new Tucson presence, such as luxury hotelier Ritz-Carlton and retailer Target Corporation.
“During a time of recession, the Metropolitan Pima Alliance’s membership felt it’s important that the community has a chance to learn about the advantages and disadvantages of our region, so that we can work to turn our deficits into assets,” said Michael Guymon, executive director of the Metropolitan Pima Alliance. “Residents in Pima County can find out how they contribute to our economy and how we all can locally make a difference.”
The event is $75 for MPA members and $100 for non-members. Lunch and a cocktail reception with a cash bar are included.
