A similar fundraising program for Haiti enabled by ZipGive, a Canadian authorized Application Service Provider by the Mobile Giving Foundation, helped its clients raise over $370,000 by mobile phone donations for relief efforts. Canadian networks Bell, Rogers Wireless, TELUS and Virgin Mobile have again agreed to waive text-messaging fees for the donation, as they did for Haiti donations. By texting the keyword “CHILE” to the designated shortcode “45678”, a donation of $5 can be made to UNICEF. After texting to the shortcode, reply with “YES” to confirm the donation. The donation is added to the cell user’s bill and receipts are available from the Mobile Giving Foundation at http://www.mobilegiving.ca
