March 2, 2010 - PRLog -- Ft. Lee, NJ, March 2, 2010 - Medical Angels Donations Center, a not-for-profit organization based in Ft. Lee, NJ is working to help get the much-needed medical supplies to Haiti. Medical Angels’ mission is to collect donations of DMEs (hospital beds, wheelchairs, walkers, etc) and then refurbish, recycle and redistribute them to people in need for no charge.  While Medical Angels has traditionally focused its efforts in the Tri-State area, they have begun to help other charities as a result of the desperate need for medical supplies in Haiti.

“Currently we are only working with charities that we can track exactly where the supplies are going.  One such group is The Burn Advocates Network who has representatives in Haiti and is supplying a few hospitals and a burn center with supplies we provided.  We estimate we have donated  $125,000 worth of supplies, which we packed up onto 16 pallets.  Friday, the valuable supplies will be loaded onto a Royal Caribbean ship to head off to Haiti,” says Jim Ressler, co-founders of Medical Angels.

Medical Angels is still seeking additional donations as well as volunteers to help with the pick up of the equipment.  A number of local companies have assisted Medical Angels in variety of way over the past few weeks during this rush for equipment.   Premier Home Healthcare in Fort Lee, PSES Executive Search, Garden State Rehabilitation, Unlimited Fit Models in NYC, Davis, Saperstein and Salomon of Teaneck and Fairmount Trucking in Hackensack have all donated both time a portion of their sales to help Medical Angels collect and send he equipment that any Haitians desperately need.

“These companies along with the area hospitals and nursing homes have really helped to raise awareness about the drive for medical equipment,” states Ressler.   “Without the help of all these companies we could have never collected this volume of equipment in such and accelerated timeframe.   It is funny because when the earthquake first hit, we contacted other charities that all said they didn’t need equipment.  Now we are being inundated by other not-for-profits who want to join with us and use our network to collect equipment.   We have roughly $400,000 worth of used equipment in our warehouses that we are looking to donate to the Haitian relief effort.

Medical Angels is closely with Royal Caribbean and The Burn Advocates Network to collect and recycle more equipment, which is desperately needed.  Medical Angels is striving to have enough equipment and supplies to send on another Royal Caribbean ship that is leaving in about two weeks.  If you want to volunteer or know someone who may have durable medical equipment that they no longer need, please contact Medical Angels at 201-461-9595 or http://www.medicalangelsdonations.org

Medical Angels provides durable medical equipment and supplies to individuals who are under served by the health care system and health insurance as well as state and federally funded programs. Many times people on fixed incomes are suddenly stricken with sickness and have few options available. In this difficult economic environment people must often make hard choices between essentials like food and electricity versus a walker or wheelchair.
