The Pancake Breakfast helps fund many other Darien Lions events during the year along with local causes like the local food pantry’s for both Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Our Lady of Peace, Hinsdale South Bumblebee Newspaper, Cub Scout Pack 36, local scholarships and special needs in the community just to mention a few.
The Darien Lions Club has played an extremely active role in the life of the community since its inception. The Pancake Breakfast is just one of many community events that are sponsored by the Club. The 4th of July Parade, Candy Day, Halloween Party and Holiday Food Basket program are other Lions Club sponsored events. Members also help with various beverage and food distribution tents at Darien Fest.
Melvin Jones founded the Lions Club in 1917 here in Chicago. In 1971, the Darien Lions Club was chartered by a group of community minded men who wanted to assist individuals with sight, hearing and the diseases associated with blindness or hearing loss. The club has grown over the past 39 years to 136 members who espouse the same goal as the original group: to serve the Darien Community.
