WEST HARTFORD, CT: On February 18th, the staff of Dr. Dimitri Perdikis of West Hartford visited Farmington Kindercare teaching 80 children, ages two through four about the importance of proper dental care and healthy food choices.
“This is fun”. That’s what the children at Farmington Kindercare said as Amanda Mayes, Registered Dental Hygienist and Heidi Kelly, Office Administrator taught the children how and when to brush their teeth. Mrs. Mayes conducted a lively interactive demonstration with the children where they learned the proper way to care for their teeth and gums. Taking the program a step farther, Mrs. Mayes also focused on smart food and drink choices. The program wrapped up with each child receiving a brightly colored toothbrush and coloring book.
With three young children of his own, Dr. Perdikis knows the importance of teaching children good oral health habits early. “Starting good habits now will start children on a lifetime with healthy teeth and gums. We teach this to our children at home”.
The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that a child's first visit to the dentist take place by the first birthday. Such visits can help in the early detection of potential problems, and help kids become accustomed to visiting the dentist so they'll have less fear about going as they grow older. Each February, the American Dental Association (ADA) sponsors National Children's Dental Health Month to raise awareness about the importance of oral health.
