March 1, 2010 - PRLog -- HBO visits Q's house of poetry...

Society can be considered its own religion. Instead of a higher power, they worship themselves and the trends they set. Once you break those trends you are considered an outcast.

Few can find a sanctuary to express themselves outside of the box. However, TSW World member Q, a gentleman from Trenton, has turned his own house into an Asylum for Expression. Q's House of Poetry has held jam sessions every Monday for a long time. Whomever who has something to say may speak. Whomever has something to play may play. There is food, deep discussion, and a footstool to kick up your weary soul.

...and he doesn't ask for a dime.

Born in Trenton, New Jersey. Keyon Anderson was called "Quam" by his Muslim brothers. It meant "One who stands straight up", or an upstanding person. He was the third of nine children, and his father was a disciplinarian through push ups. Through this, he grew an appreciation for athletics. His word was his word. Unfortunately, even with his laid back nature he got sentenced to ten years in prison. Despite the incarceration, his family stood with him and supported him. Though he did well playing basketball and other sports at the prison, it was his inmates who told him that he had a gift for poetry.

Traveling the scenes to wherever there was an "Open Mic Night", eventually people started seeing his gift. This included radio personality, Joyce Little from V103 radio. Her Passion And Poetry event for Valentine's day debuted him at his first poetry event.

It was hard for me to grasp the concept of a body builder who was a poet. One is usually one or the other, but I am reminded of the old days where warriors were considered "Warrior Poets" for a reason. The samurai were the ones writing Haiku and spending hours reading and creating art through calligraphy. The more I talked with him, the more I realized the balance of the hard and soft aspects of his personality. He is like Silly Putty to a degree. He can be soft, but he's not easily broken, and his night life often has him bouncing off walls.

Since that initial meeting of the world and Q's gift of words, many greater opportunities have come knockin' on the doors of Q's House. Eddie Oliver, a world renowned poet in his own right,  was approached by HBO to film a piece for one of their hit shows , Zanes' Sex Chronicles. But rather than take that opportunity for himself, Eddie told them of a place where talent flows as freely as the laughter and thought provoking conversation, "Q's House of Poetry." True to the spirit of the TSW Network, people helping people.

Anyone familiar with Zane's Sex Chronicles knows how heated that show can get. HBO knew the cocktail mix of poetry and steamy erotica drama would get a nice crowd in one place. That place will end up being Q's House of Poetry, March 1st. A contest will be held for the steamiest poetry in the area, the winner winning a prize of 300 dollars. This opportunity will not only offer the prize, but bragging rights, and a lot of resume candy to flaunt to the hungry entertainment world. Though it was not disclosed when the show would air, the taping will happen March 1st on Q's usual Monday Night... Zanified. He had already boasted about the curtains he was putting around the House, the mood being turned up an extra ten notches. Tariq Alexander, Ruff Ryders and Joan Hornig will also be in the house so bring a friend, or make a bunch of new ones at this one, people.

Now, when I first thought "Q's House of Poetry", my mind immediately went to my experiences in the Goth community and coffee houses. While it has a somewhat 'coffee house' atmosphere, it's not just Emo kids on the mic whining about their recent break up. While they are certainly welcome to go to the podium, they will not find mic's. Q believes in saying what you need to say so that everyone can hear you. There are also more dimensions to the House than just the poetry. If you draw, draw and share. If you play, they have a list of people playing music for the night. If you embroider quilts dedicated to Elvis Presley, by all means come along! Anyone that has anything to express can come here, even if it's expressing interest in listening to other people. All of this is at Q's own house.

All Q needs is more people. Go to http://www.TSWPlace.com, search for Quam and let him know you want to be a part of the TSW movement and his house of poetry.

When an artist asks about contacts, he merely points to TSW. As a TSW World member, and a personal trainer within the network, he has met and worked with many of the TSW members and would know who the best people would be to ask.

People are Q's life, and he believed in the concept of TSW long before he was even introduced. I can honestly say that I want to go to his "Magnetic Mondays" just to be myself. It is a revolutionary concept of acceptance and one which I would like to see flourish ten years from now.
