Are you curious to find out the origins of the best wines of Italy? This is the tour for you!
Orvieto is a city in Umbria built on volcanic tuff stone and surrounded by defensive walls of the same material. Orvieto was a major centre of Etruscan civilization and its population dates back to 9th Century B.C.
After its annexation to the Roman empire it remained under the Roman territory until its decline.
After that it became a free city but always faithful to the Pope and for this reason it was possible for Orvieto to prosper during the medieval times.
All this history has left its mark in this city: the underground Etruscan ruins, the famous Cathedral with its massive façade and S. Patrizio’s well are just some of the sights that you will be visiting on this tour.
After strolling around in the historical center you can take a rest at one of the best wineries of the city where you can enjoy white and red wine together with finger food typical of this region.
Stefanorometours and his professional associates will be happy to give you all the culinary information you need!
Viticulture in this region was started by the Etruscans who excavated caves from the tuff stone to make cellars where they would produce wine!
Orvieto is primarily known for its white wine, made from Gracchetto and Trebbiano that used to be very sweet wines, but today they are much more dry. You can also find and taste the very famous Orvieto Classico; because it is produced with high quality methods in 1998 it was awarded DOC.
Among the red wines you can taste the Rosso Orvietano or Orvietano Rosso red wine that are very recent.
All this good wine comes along with a selection of cold cuts, cheeses and bread from this region.
Don’t miss this opportunity to delight your palate!
Stefanorometours knows where to take you!
