Intended to introduce current or aspiring translators to how technology can help them in their daily life, Tools and Technology in Translation will explore the following topics: » the role of translators in the era of technology; » defining a work schedule to become better organized; » identifying your output in words/hour or day; » developing business skills and writing a business plan; » designing professional- » working with project managers and translation agencies; » working in a collaborative environment with other translators, and » identifying what computer-assisted translation tool have to offer. The 10-week on-line class will be presented by Rafa Lombardino, director of Word Awareness, Inc., a network of professional translators established in San Diego, California. Ms. Lombardino has been working as a professional translator since 1997 and has three years of experience as an English as a Second Language and Computer Skills instructor. A native Brazilian certified in English into Portuguese translations by the American Translators Association (ATA), Ms. Lombardino is also a UC San Diego Extension alumnus, having a professional certificate in English and Spanish Translation and Interpreting. She specializes in Technology (Associate Degree in Computer Sciences, emphasis in Data Processing) and Communications (Bachelor of Arts in Social Communications, Major in Journalism).
