The difference between management and team leadership is that the former relies more on planning, organizational and communications skills, while leadership is more about having qualities such as integrity, honesty, humility, courage, commitment.

Successful team leadership calls for a leader who can truly inspire and motivate the entire team members to achieve their full potential. A leader must not hesitate to ask for feedbacks from his people about their ideas with regards to his leadership style. This could be the key that will play a vital role to making changes to your leadership style. A relaxed and open atmosphere among the team will greatly lend a hand in drawing out their honest opinion.

If you are aspiring to become a great leader, then you should be a great listener. You must listen hard especially when your team members’ talk to you with regards to their work related worries, it’s important to hear them out. If you take the time to listen to them with sincerity, you’ll be able to easily convey empathy, suggest alternatives and create harmonious relationship within the team.

Learn to respect and trust your team’s capabilities, allow them to take decisions on certain issues from time to time. It is ideal to delegate tasks among the group members depending on the situation and their individual strong points. By involving more qualified people in the leadership process, you, yourself will become a better leader.

Finally, you must lead by example; your team must strongly believe in your integrity and that you really mean what you say. Then, evaluate your success in tandem with that of the team. Take note that one of your main responsibility is to ensure success and development of the team. Building their skill will enhance motivation and team performance.
