Saint Arnold Summer Pils, winner of a Gold Medal at the 2009 Great American Beer Festival, will be the first batch of beer brewed at the three story brick building on the north end of downtown Saint Arnold calls the “newery.” Originally constructed in 1914, Saint Arnold has extensively renovated the building, which now features a large beer hall with a wall of windows overlooking the brewing operations. Visitors to Saturday’s open house will be able to watch Saint Arnold’s small team of brewers making the newery’s first batch.
“We have been working hard setting up this new brewhouse and making sure that we continue to consistently produce world class beers,” said Brock Wagner, founder and brewer at Saint Arnold. “I tell people who think we are getting big that it takes Anheuser-Busch two hours to make as much beer as we produce in an entire year. The sign of our growth is that it used to take A-B just one hour.”
It will take several more weeks to fully transition brewing and bottling operations to the new location. When the transition is complete, the new brewery will have an initial annual capacity of 40,000 barrels. Wagner expects the batch of Saint Arnold Summer Pils being brewed today to be bottled at the new brewery in mid-April.
