The two most visited tourist attractions in Scotland have been pointed out by Peter Bromley of Historic Scotland. According to him the top two tourist destinations of Scotland are; the Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow that is a free attraction and Edinburgh Castle, which is a paid attraction. He also revealed that the tourism industry had defied the global economic downturn to a considerable extent and by the way Scotland remained a region of great attraction for domestic as well as overseas visitors.
Kelvingrove is an art gallery and museum located in Glasgow. This is undoubtedly one of the most visited attractions in the United Kingdom outside London. The museum is located on the West End of Glasgow city in Argyle Street and houses one of the greatest civic art collections in Europe. Observers say that these days visitors seem to prefer to enter the museum through the back entrance rather than the front entrance of the building that is constructed from back to front.
The museum is virtually a hub for both overseas and domestic visitors round the year with one of the best collections of armours and arms around the world, besides a great natural history collection.
Meanwhile, the Edinburgh Castle that dominates Edinburgh city's skyline is a paid attraction of Scotland. It is an astonishing fact that the volcanic Castle Rock bears the castle on its very crust. The castle has involved in a good number of historical conflicts and besieged successfully and unsuccessfully on various occasions it has gradually evolved into a recognisable icon.
The Edinburgh Castle shines as one of Historic Scotland's three hundred forty five heritage sites and carries a lot inside the castle walls for the visitors to experience. A variety of special events and entertainments have been hosted by the castle throughout the year, which include costumed storytellers' regular performances that bring to life the past happenings in the castle.
