WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 26, 2010) – J&G Wine Bar announces its latest epicurean offering: chocolate and cabernet. Available now through Sunday, March 14th, J&G Wine Bar will have special pairings of select Cabernet wines, served with a duo of Warm Chocolate Cakes and Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, cited as a “Best Dessert” by Washingtonian magazine’s Top 100 Very Best Restaurants for 2010.
The wine with the current Chocolate and Cabernet pairing offered is a quartino (two glasses) of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Fay Cabernet Sauvignon 2006, a full-bodied wine with a long, smooth finish. Each Chocolate and Cabernet pairing is priced at $48 for two. Additional wine selections will be chosen by sommelier Benoit de Francisco over the coming weeks.
“Stag’s Leap Cabernet is rich, lush and velvety in texture – a perfect compliment to a dessert with all of the same qualities,” says J&G Manager, Peter Smith.
The Warm Chocolate Cake was invented by Jean-Georges Vongerichten in 1987, and is the signature dessert at his restaurants worldwide, including SpiceMarket in New York City. Vongerichten created the decadent dessert when he accidentally pulled a chocolate sponge cake from the oven before it was done and found that the center had a perfect taste and texture.
J&G Wine Bar is located just steps below J&G Steakhouse and offers a diverse selection of old and new world wines as well as handcrafted cocktails and beers from around the world. A light fare menu is also available featuring selections created by Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Executive Chef Philippe Reininger. The cozy, sophisticated space is accessible both from W Washington, D.C. at 515 15th Street NW and also from its own entrance at the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue NW and 15th Street NW.
J&G Wine Bar is open daily at 11:45 am, closing at 1:00am, Sunday through Thursday, and 2:00am on Friday and Saturday.
