Mike Dean, president of Yaga’s Entertainment, Inc. and Yaga’s Café, announced that historic downtown Galveston will be the site for the inaugural Galveston Island Food and Wine Festival on April 16 – 17. This two-day event includes an invitation only Chaîne black tie dinner on Friday and a public wine tasting event on Saturday from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m. in Saengerfest Park, 23rd and Strand. This year, the festival will feature South American wines complemented by live Latin music and entertainment. Festival goers can also enjoy chocolate, cheese and food bites from area restaurants as well as American wines.

Saturday’s event will offer two levels of wine and ticket prices. A general tasting ticket is $45 in advance or $60 on the day of the event and a premium tasting ticket is $65 in advance or $75 on the day of the event. Both tickets include a commemorative souvenir glass, live entertainment, wine tastings and opportunity to win door prizes as well as Saturday night dining-wine pairing discounts at area restaurants. Proceeds will benefit local Galveston charities.

Dean announced that Galveston Bailliage of La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs™ is co-sponsoring the event. La Chaîne is an international gastronomic society founded in Paris in 1248 and dedicated to bringing together those who share an interest in cuisine, wine and fine dining. Each year the society sponsors young chef and sommelier competitions that attract contestants from throughout the world, while the Chaîne Foundation provides scholarships for students in these fields. Galveston Chaîne Bailli Jan Pozzi and Grand Eschanson Jim Pozzi are co-chairs for this year’s event and will oversee the selection of wines to be featured. The Pozzis are hosting an invitation only Chaîne black tie dinner on Friday, April 16 at Luigi's, 2328 Strand. During the dinner, guests will select the Grand Champion Wine of the festival which will be announced at the Saturday tasting.

“The participation of the Galveston Bailliage of La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, the premier wine society in the world, will insure that this a high caliber wine festival,” said Dean. “Festival goers will enjoy an assortment of great wines, delicious food and, of course, live music.”
