Stubborn New Yorkers are never to be outdone by their neighbors. A towering 9 foot snowman in East Islip, New York can attest to that. Seeing a neighbor had erected a 61/2 ft. snowman in their front yard; friends and family banded together to erect an enormous 9 foot 5 inch snowman complete with buttons and a wooden pipe. "We just didn't want to be outdone", acclaimed Timothy DiFranzo. Timothy employed the help of his brother Chris and his sister Maggie as well as neighbors Dennis August, Micheal Miguel and others. "Even mom got into the action", Maggie exclaimed. She can be seen in the pictures standing next to the snowman. Together the group rounded up snow with the help of wheelbarrows, garabage cans and 10 show shovels. They worked over 9 hours collecting and molding their new trophy. They claim they needed the two tallest people on shoulders to put the eyes in.
So what's the plan for the next storm? Rival neighbors have vowed to erect one bigger so this group plans on renting heavy equipment for the next one. "We're going to break 13 feet", says an excited Chris DiFranzo. This reporter can only hope for another big snow storm to see what happens.
