Gypsy Watkins – A New Star Is Born!!

Feb. 26, 2010 - PRLog -- GYPSY WATKINS, an opera singer from Birkdale, has become an overnight sensation in Liverpool, selling 1,600 tickets so far for her debut concert in the city this summer.

As Sarah Watkins, she was already a busking phenomenon but, reborn as Gypsy Watkins, she’s meteoric!  Gypsy’s debut at the Liverpool Empire Theatre on Saturday, July 24 2010, is a virtual sell out as locals remember her glorious solos opera arias in the town centre and want to hear more.

Gypsy said: “I love giving this joy to people with my voice. It’s such a pleasure and so rewarding. It’s like magic for me to sing.

“I’ve wanted to change my name by deed poll for a while and I just know that being Gypsy will help me reach out to people.  I’ve always wanted to be Gypsy; I love the name – it’s so mysterious and oh so me!”

The trigger for Gypsy’s name change was her performances on the Costa Del Sol, where waiters and watchers nicknamed her ‘Gypsy the Opera Singer’ – a tribute to her sultry good looks and earthy voice.

Gypsy’s husband (formerly Stephen) has changed his name to PURPLE WATKINS simply because she asked him to.  

Purple said:  “Gypsy woke me in the middle of the night and said, ‘Please change your name. I’m writing a song called Gypsy and Purple and I want you to be my Purple.’   It just seemed the right thing to do. I fully support her career so if she’s Gypsy then I’m her Purple.”

“Gypsy has the power to heal with her voice. The name Gypsy reflects who she is as a human being.  She’s a traveller, very spiritual. She even dresses like a gypsy! She’s been singing since she was 12 but as she wasn’t getting anywhere, she gave it up and did fine arts instead.

“She’s now been singing solo on the streets since October last year and has been a sensation. I’m a singer too but would rather be Gypsy’s manager because I know she can soar so high as a soloist.

“I’m going to be Purple forever. Now I’ve got the official documents from the Legal Deed Service, I’m changing it everywhere: passport, driving licence, bank details.
