There is so much snow on the ground right now - and even more still falling - that the only way you can get through all this shoveling, sliding, slipping and freezing is to dream of crystal clear waters, soft sands and salty breezes. You fantasize about immersing yourself in bath-warm water, sinking beneath the waves and exploring in scuba gear.
Butch Zemar wants to make at least part of this a reality for you, right here and right now. Zemar, a certified Master Scuba Diver Trainer, is sponsoring a scuba experience on March 6th. The experience is free to all.
“Free?” we asked. “Yes, free,” Zemar responded. “Normally, this lesson is $40, but it’s just such a great experience and we want as many people as possible to feel the joy of breathing underwater. So we’re doing it for free.”
Zemar knows this joy firsthand. With well over 2,000 dives under his weighted belt since 1995, Zemar also holds numerous certifications including Instructor Development Staff Instructor, which enables him to teach confident and experienced divers how to teach new divers, and Emergency First Response Instructor. He is eager to share the delight of this sport and help participants master basic concepts they can take with them on vacation to warmer climates, or use here at dive sites around Chicagoland and the Midwest.
“Chicagoland?”
The Saturday, March 6th class starts promptly at 1 pm at Scuba Emporium, 16636 S. 104th Avenue in Orland Park, and ends at 4 pm. Participants will truly dive that day, under the guidance of certified professionals. Begin with a PADI Discover Scuba lesson via video and flip chart and then enter 4 feet of water in the indoor heated pool. Breathe underwater, get comfortable with the equipment and then move into 9 feet of water. The class is the first step to internationally recognized certification, so participants can use these skills on a vacation or to continue training.
“Anyone 10 years old or older can participate. Children ages 8 and 9 are welcome if there is a supervising, participating parent or guardian in the water with them. The March 6th free experience is really a great family outing; a mini vacation right here in the neighborhood.”
There are a limited number of spaces available, so reservations are recommended. A signed medical and liability form are required before class begins and may be completed on site. For more information, to reserve your spot and to request the forms, please call Scuba Emporium at 708-226-1614 or email to butch@scubabutch.com.
Whether you want to get familiar with gear before your ocean vacation or just need a break from cabin fever, on March 6th, Butch Zemar will get your scuba adventure started.
