The culture of Nepal is associated with its evergreen musical heritage. Nepali songs can be heard in every corner and nook of Nepal. It is said that the diversity of the people of Nepal gives Nepal its musical culture and heritage. The country of Nepal has approximately 36 ethnic groups with various languages and culture. This diversity has been the key and instrumental in bringing the music to the platform to which Nepali songs and music stand today. For example, the Newars of Nepal has been traditionally associated with music that performs musical feats at religious and cultural events. In the same way the Damai caste too has brought Nepali music to its great height to the ordinary people.
The music in Nepal has also been influenced by the neighbouring countries chiefly India and Tibet that too has great musical heritage. There are several instruments that are used to play Nepali songs and music of which 108 is accounted for. The Nepali musical instruments has been classified in 4 various categories mainly; Membranophones, idiophones, chordophones and aerophones. These instruments each produce various sounds and in harmony that gives Nepali music its distinct features.
