Bloom Energy Corp., who has received a firestorm of publicity for its "Bloom Box", a collection of fuel cells that the company says can provide clean electricity to homes, office buildings and other structures has been selected to receive the 2010 USC AGC Innovators award at the 2010 Sustainability in Construction Symposium in April at the Galen Center in Los Angeles.

Bloom Energy, who counts Ebay and Google as current clients, created the Bloom Energy Server which can generate electricity from multiple fuels while producing relatively few greenhouse gas emissions.

Unlike other fuel cells, Bloom's "energy box" is made mostly of sand, with no platinum or other precious metals thrown in as catalysts. And unlike solar panels and wind turbines, each server can produce the same amount of energy day and night for years on end, Bloom Energy says.

According to Symposium Co-Chair Asiri Perera, the honor is exciting because of the myriad applications of Bloom's innovation and how it can help the construction industry apply this technology in future new builds and retrofits.

The 2010 Sustainability in Construction Symposium is a green building and sustainability event will bring together leading U.S. experts on the topic of sustainable development to educate and motivate Southern California’s built environment professionals as well as government and elected officials on the latest trends, techniques, technologies and materials in green building. Practical, case-study based panelists and our keynote address will be complemented by an exhibition of green-related companies servicing the sustainable aspect of construction.

This year's Keynote address will be delivered by Tom Smith, SVP of West Coast Real Estate with NBC Universal Evolution Plan.

The 2010 Sustainability in Construction Symposium will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at the Galen Center at USC in Los Angeles. You can find more information at www.2010greensymposium.com
