The EtsyChai Jewish Street team on the handmade site, Etsy, is having a Passover “Celebrate Freedom” event beginning on Sunday, February 28 and lasting for one week. The EtsyChai team has information at its blog and the address is http://etsychai.blogspot.com.
In brief, Passover is the holiday when the Israelites were set free from slavery in Egypt. It is commenmorated by eating matzah, or unleavened bread and having two special dinners consisting of prayers, blessings and songs before and after eating. There is also a Seder Plate which holds ritual foods that signify the bitterness of slavery and the sacifices the Israelites made in ancient times.
You can learn about Passover, the rituals including the Passover Seder, customs and items associated with this Jewish holiday, and get some delicious Jewish recipes. There will also be handmade Passover, Jewish, Judaica and secular items available. EtsyChai team members are located around the world, including the United States and Israel.
