OAK RIDGE, NJ -- Fredericks Fuel & Heating Service, New Jersey’s oldest heating oil company, today said that it will assume the tank protection plans of dozens of former Able Oil customers who bought their plans from Able before it interrupted fuel oil deliveries last month.
“Tank plans are an important protection that many oil customers buy as part of annual delivery plans,” explained Mark Fredericks, president of Fredericks Fuel. “With Able unable to deliver oil to its customers, we have had a number of inquiries about where that leaves them with their tank plans. We have begun offering former Able Customers the ability to continue their plans as Fredericks customers.”
Tank protection plans pay for the costs that can occur when an oil tank fails, and it is important to make sure that the coverage is maintained without interruption or lapse, Fredericks explained. “These are not costs that homeowners can recover from their homeowners insurance company, and it’s important that the plan does not lapse.”
Customers who have already paid for tank protection are being offered the opportunity to have the plan transferred as they become customers of Fredericks Fuel, Fredericks said, and will be offered renewal under the same terms as the company’s existing customers. The Proguard Program that provides tank programs has committed to permit the assignment of fully paid contracts to Fredericks Fuel for former Able Customers.
Fredericks Fuel, which has operated continuously since 1878, has provided deliveries to stranded Able customers in Morris, Passaic and Sussex Counties, Fredericks said. “People are very dependent on their heating oil company to make deliveries and provide reliable service,” he added. “No delivery means no heat. It’s really pretty simple. We have had more than our share of no heat calls from former Able customers.”
Unlike some other local dealers, Fredericks has not placed any limitations on the areas in which it will service former Able customers or on the amount that it is able to deliver, as long as they are within its general service areas. “Supply is really not a problem for us,” Fredericks said. “We have four storage facilities and committed long-term supply contracts.”
