Goverline CEO Speaks Out on Social Entrepreneurship, Rebels for a Cause

John Melia’s latest project, RebelforaCause.org, highlights change-makers from around the globe and encourages every day citizens to revolutionize their communities

Feb. 25, 2010 - PRLog -- John Melia, founder of The Wounded Warrior Project and Goverline, as well as a pioneer in the area of social entrepreneurship, recently launched the site www.rebelsforacause.org to do something very few business people take the opportunity to do: Melia wants to teach aspiring philanthropists to follow their hearts and create change.

Beginning in December 2009, Melia and co-author, Sara Lancaster, began compiling information and inviting the public to nominate “rebels” for feature in the forthcoming book, Rebel for a Cause, and for feature on the Web site of the same name.

Rebels are defined as people who persevere as a social entrepreneur despite difficulties in establishing the organization and creating positive change.

The intent of the book and complementary Web site is to offer tips and advice that Melia has learned through his career as a social entrepreneur and to recognize those who have become powerful change makers despite obstacles. In a word, Rebel for a Cause is about teaching.

“I’ve learned that I can create a successful career and help my community at the same time,” Melia said. “I’ve started three different businesses with this in mind and despite the many challenges faced, I can’t imagine a more rewarding career. I want others to see that too. That is what Rebel for a Cause is about.”

Melia is referring to the three organizations he has started and successfully run since retiring from the in Marine Corps in 1995. Those organizations include: The Wounded Warrior Project, an organization committed to helping injured military vets; The Raiser Group, a non-profit consultancy group; and, Goverline, a logistics company owned and operated by retired military men and women.

The book is scheduled for publication in the winter of 2010, but rebel nominations are now being accepted. Those nominated may be featured on the Web site or in the book. Nominations and book pre-orders can be completed at http://www.rebelforacause.org/nominate.
