Feb. 25, 2010 - PRLog -- Sales of inkjet and laser printers through distributors in Europe's top economies are still in the doldrums according to figures for January 2010 released today by IT market research specialists Context. Latest figures show unit sales down 6% and revenues down 8%,  compared to the same period a year ago.

"Although the rate of sales decline started easing off in September 2009, when unit sales fell 22% year-on-year, we're still in negative growth," commented Context co-founder Jeremy Davies.  “In fact, January 2010 was worse than December when sales only fell 4%”, he added.

Of the two main printer types, single-function and multi-function, the trend towards multifunction machines showed acceleration, particularly across inkjet multi-function printers which grew 8% in unit terms in January this year compared to the same period in 2009. Revenues for multi-function inkjet printers were up 9% for the same period despite average selling prices dropping to a historical low in January 2010.

While HP still leads the field in overall printer sales through distribution, Kodak printer sales started to register in November 2009 with sales doubling in January 2010 compared to the previous month.
