PRLog (Press Release) - Feb 24, 2010 -
Adelphi University is honored to host Social Action Day on Monday, March 1, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in the Ruth S. Harley University Center, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. The event will focus on social advocacy and is part of the University’s Social Work Month celebrations, which honors the work that social workers do to help improve community life. All social work students and those interested in the field are invited to participate.

During the event, faculty members will facilitate workshops and small action groups focusing on social problems, such as homelessness, employment and wages, child welfare and child abuse, healthcare, hate crimes and immigrant issues, domestic violence, seniors, mental health, and disabilities.

The purpose of this annual event is to teach social advocacy skills, discuss social problems, and then apply these skills to various projects that address the problems. For instance, participants will learn how to write letters in support of legislation, gathering and disseminating information, and how to organize and conduct lobby groups for specific causes.
