Feb. 23, 2010 - PRLog -- CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Neighbors fought it, now the Charlotte Housing Authority backs out.

You'd think it would be a victory for those neighbors, but now many are worried about what the developer could still do.

Residents, were concerned about low income housing affecting property values.

They're still concerned about added traffic, overcrowding, and the fact that the developer could still look for subsidized housing from another source.

The Charlotte Housing Authority says it withdrew from the development in part because when the developer lowered the number of units after hearing from neighbors it made it too expensive.



CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A new bombshell in the controversial Ballantyne development project! The Republic Development Group has backed out of the entire project, pulling the rezoning petition Wednesday.

Fox Charlotte Anchor Rebecca Clark spoke with the developer Stuart Proffitt about why they made this move he told her it was because they weren't able to apply to the city's housing trust fund.

Proffitt said it wouldn't work with their timing. Last night, the Charlotte Housing Authority withdrew from the project. They were trying to bring subsidized housing to the area.
