Thrill Planet is proud to announce its participation in this year’s auction fundraiser for the volunteer and non-profit charity work done by the Womencare Shelter organization. Womencare Shelter has been providing shelter to victims of domestic violence in Whatcom County since 1979. Womencare Shelter services include a 24-hour domestic violence helpline, emergency shelter, and legal advice.
A lot of domestic abuse incidents go unreported because many women feel like the conflict can be resolved privately, with the abuser. Once abuse becomes an established pattern, altering it becomes more difficult. Womencare Shelter works to make sure women have the financial independence necessary to leave an abusive relationship and that all affected parties are taken care of, including children.
In an effort to expand its outreach to victims of domestic violence, Womencare Shelter is holding a charity auction event February 27, 2010 at the Best Western Lakeway Inn. Last year, this charity auction raised more than $50,000. Thrill Planet will be donating a Hot Air Balloon Gift Certificate to be auctioned at this annual charity fundraiser in an effort to reach the Shelter’s overall goal of $55,000.
