There used to be ten suns in the east at the beginning of the world. They were the sons of God of East Heaven. They stayed in a boilley valley in the east seas with a giant tree. One of them would rise to the top of the tree sent by tree sent by their mother who drove a cart pulled by six dragons. The other nine sons stayed under the tree. The sons were bored of the monotonous cycle and decided to go out to play all together. The ten suns made the world so hot , that most living things couldn’t servive. The father Dijun was angry and decided to teach his ten sons a lesson.He ordered a god by the name of Hou Yi to scare them . Hou Yi realized it was not wise just scare them for they might go out agains someday. He shot nine of the suns one by one to rescue the dying people .Cheers went up to the sky for his deed,and people’s anger was appeased.
Later on,after Hou Yi’s wife flew to the moon,he lost his patience with his servants.All of them left him except Fengmeng. He pretended to be loyal to his master Hou Yi.Hou Yi Passed on his art of archery to Fengment for the found the servant was very eager to learn.Hou Yi did’t realize his servent was an ungrateful and treacherous man .One day ,he was murdered by his student Fengmeng. What a giant and simple-minded hero!The myth of shooting downing nine suns reflects the beautiful wish of man in the battle against droughts and other disasters.
