PRLog (Press Release) - Feb 22, 2010 -
The abstract “Digital Revolution in Water Utility Management” was selected for presentation at the 2010 DistribuTECH Conference and Exhibition, to be held on March 23-25, 2010 in Tampa, Florida.  BirdNest Vice President and COO, Gary Lassin will discuss a 21st-century approach to water utility information management that encompasses all facets of the job, from collecting data in a more direct and accurate way, to using the data to manage day-to-day operations more effectively, to deploying collected data in dynamic modeling programs that may save millions of dollars in capital improvement expenditures.

DistribuTECH has increased programming for the water industry and will include more water exhibitors and attendees in 2010. BirdNest will present on March 23, 2010 at 2:30 PM EST.

The abstract “Digital Revolution in Ground Water Utility Management” was selected for presentation at the 2010 Ground Water Summit taking place April 11-15 in Denver, Colorado. This presentation will also be delivered by BirdNest Vice President and COO, Gary Lassin and will focus on the advantages a new approach to ground water data has offered users. It will also include the considerations to make before selecting a digital solution for groundwater monitoring.

The 2010 Ground Water Summit is designed to bring together a mix of regulators, practitioners, natural resource managers, policymakers, municipal planners and others who supply knowledge and technology needed to address key water issues. BirdNest will present on Monday, April 12, 2010 at 4:10 PM MST.

Both presentations will start with a quick look at water data and provide examples of how a digital system has been used by three utility managers.

1.   M. Marlon Ivy & Associates operate several small Municipal Utility Districts in the Houston area. They have used a digital data system since 2003 to monitor water treatment, distribution and wastewater treatment, and within the first month of use virtually eliminated paper logs.

2.   Genoa Township in Michigan employs Severn Trent to operate about 60 lift stations, 3 wastewater treatment plants, and 2 water treatment plants and has been using a digital data system since 2006. The Township’s utilities director uses the operational data collected to manage the water and sewer infrastructure.

3.   The City of Pearland, TX, installed their digital data system in 2005. The data collected was used in a dynamic modeling study as part of their long-range capital improvement program. With digital data, the engineer could dynamically model and verify the system. As a result of this study, the projected cost of the capital project dropped from $145 million to $77 million.

BirdNest provides a secure, web-based reporting and optional phone-based water data collection tool that provides real-time control over critical operating data.  This powerful digital data system and data efficiency tool helps water utility managers increase operator productivity, control personnel costs, spot problems quickly, use data effectively for long-range planning, and improve overall compliance, accountability and reliability. The tool can be used in the phases of water production data management, water distribution data management, water collection data management, wastewater treatment, and wastewater monitoring.  To learn more about BirdNest's services please go to our website at http://www.birdnest.com

About BirdNest: Companies with a heavy operational or compliance data burden needed a cost-efficient data collection and data utilization solution that was simple and easy to implement. Our team has backgrounds in automated data collection systems, web development, cellular data services, e-government and regulatory compliance -- serving the oil & gas, transportation, and water industries. We have created BirdNest, a combination of two important technologies, cellular data collection and hosted (asp) data management.

Unlike enterprise software applications which require the purchase of software for each client computer and require complex configurations for different groups of users, BirdNest offers a software-as-a-service. This brings significant benefits – low, definable operating expenses, low implementation and training costs, scalable deployment, shared access among authorized users, and rapid return on investment.
BirdNest Services, Inc. is headquartered in Houston, Texas.
