Gary Brown & Siobhan McConnell Move in the Prints
St John’s Shopping Centre has opened its doors to a photography exhibition, co-ordinated by Perth & Kinross Council’s Youth Service Team, which features work by young photographers from all over Perthshire.
The exhibition followed a Perthshire wide project which took place over September and October, 2009 where young people were given an opportunity to develop their creativity and learn new skills in digital art and photography. Workshops took place in Perth High School, Perth Academy, Glenearn Community Campus and Errol Community Centre and the youngsters were encouraged to pick an object from their everyday lives that was meaningful to them and photograph them. The exhibition features a small selection of the many images that were captured on camera.
The work was originally shown as part of the Click Arts Showcase at Perth Concert Hall, and was exhibited at Perth Museum and Art Gallery last December.
Siobhan McConnell, St John’s Shopping Centre manager said, “We are delighted to offer up space to Perth & Kinross Council’s Youth Service Team to display this fabulous and engaging exhibition. We are certain that visitors to St John’s Shopping Centre will appreciate viewing the digital photography skills of our young people in the area and will be inspired by their creativity and professionalism.”
The project is a partnership between Perth and Kinross Council Arts Development Service, South Perth Youth Services and Perth photographer Claire Fraser.
