FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Feb 22, 2010 -
Older people who require long-term care can fall frequently and up to 35% of these falls result in serious injury and around 8% in fractures. Falls in care homes can contribute to an increase in fatalities, individual physical and psychological damage, loss of independence and health costs. There are also implications for care home staff as an increase in anxiety, workloads and complaints are likely. It is therefore important to have fall prevention strategies and interventions in place.

January sees the launch of our new three-hour Prevention of Falls in Care course which teaches fall management techniques to workers in residential and domiciliary care settings.

The course informs delegates about ways of preventing falls and the action to take if an individual does experience a fall. It also details the costs of falls to both the care provider and the service user and explains the legislation relevant to the issue.

Topics covered during the course include:

•   Definition of a fall within the care sector
•   Possible causes of falls
•   Regulations and legislation
•   Risk assessment and hazard analysis
•   Fall management

Managing Director Darren Eden commented: “We have been made aware that there is a significant demand for a course of this nature and the statistics speak for themselves. We believe that the duration and content is ideally suited to those within the care sector and will encourage people to take on this important and useful training that can help to prevent accidents and injuries.”
