Data Summer Inc. released an upgraded version its 'US Weather Wake Up' alarm clock for US outdoors enthusiasts whose outdoor activities depend on weather conditions.
'US Weather Wake Up' is an award-winning smart alarm clock that wakes its users earlier or later according to weather criteria that they specify.
The smart alarm was designed for outdoors enthusiasts including sailors, hunters, anglers, skiers, climbers, cyclists, birders, glider pilots, photographers, astronomers, golfers, tennis players, equestrians and more.
For example, weekend sailors can specify that they would like an early alarm at 6am if winds are over 15 knots, but otherwise would like to sleep in until 7:30am.
John G. is an example of such an alarm clock user. He's a keen trimaran sailor, whose sailing time has to compete with a busy family schedule and work as a busy executive at a high-tech company.
On a few special days in summer though, John will set 'Weather Wake Up' to wake him early if the winds are right, if visibility is good, and if there's no storm activity.
On those days he'll be on the water early to enjoy perfect weather conditions for his type of sailing: "I like those bright blue days with winds 'honking' at 25 to 35 knots. What great conditions to play hooky from work", he says. And if the winds and blue sky conditions don't materialize, the alarm lets him sleep an hour or two longer, until the usual wake up time for his office commute.
Where did he get the idea of using this smart alarm system? "From my college-going son. Like most teens, he likes to sleep in on the weekends … unless the weather is right for fly fishing and water photography. Then he'll actually get up before me to drive out to his favorite rivers."
And does his wife use 'US Weather Wake Up'? "She's too responsible to play hooky from work. But, if there's rain or snow in the morning, the alarm can wake her earlier than usual to give her more time for her daily commute to work".
About the Technology
'US Weather Wake Up' runs on most PCs, computers and laptop computers including Windows PCs, Apple MAC computers and Linux computers. It requires no external weather sensing equipment. Instead, it connects itself to the internet to check for weather conditions at the time and location specified by its users.
'US Weather Wake Up' trial versions are downloadable free of charge from Data Summer's website. The trial version can be converted to the full-featured, standard version for $19.45US.
