Feb. 20, 2010 - PRLog -- The CPSC is drawing attention to this recall, which apparently is caused due to a hinge that could slice a child's fingertip off.  It may also cause other injuries when the stroller is opened or closed, such as lacerations.  Parents and other caregivers are being cautioned about the dangers of these strollers, and advised to discontinue use at once.

So far, five children have had fingertips amputated, and two fingertip lacerations have occurred according to reports received by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.  According to the CPSC advisory, two different styles of hinge mechanisms were used in these strollers by the company.  The strollers that are included in this recall contain plastic hinge mechanisms with indented canopy positioning notches.

These strollers were manufactured between October of 2004 and February of 2008, and parents are advised to check out their strollers if they aren't certain if they are included in this recall.  The model number and date manufactured will appear on the lower inside of the rear frame.  Retailers around the country sold these recalled strollers, some of which include Wal-Mart, Sears, Target, Babies R Us and Toys R Us.  Free repair kits are available, which parents can request by contacting the company.  More information concerning the free repair kits can be found on the Graco website at www.gracobaby.com.

Just a few weeks ago, a recall much like this one was announced by MacLaren strollers, and California product liability lawyers (http://www.robertreeveslaw.com/california/products-liabil...) have noticed the similarities.  MacLaren recalled more than one million strollers this past November, after receiving about a dozen reports of amputation injuries.  Like the Graco strollers, these injuries occurred when the strollers were closed or opened and children's fingers were caught in the stroller hinge mechanism.

The strollers involved in the current recall by Graco were manufactured in China.
