Producer Grant Turck has optioned "How To Succeed With Women Without Really Trying: The Dastard's Guide To The Birds And Bees" by late author Shepherd Mead and partnered with producer and literary manager Eva Lontscharitsch to develop the satirical guidebook into a feature. The pair will produce the feature through Turck’s production shingle, Grant Turck Productions. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Published in 1957 by Ballantine Books "How To Succeed With Women Without Really Trying" is an ageless primer on how men can meet and woo women. Similar in structure and tone to Mead’s earlier and perhaps more well-known work "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying," "How To Succeed With Women..." satirizes 1950s male-female relations under the guise of a self-help book with chapters that include “How to be Irresistible in Short Pants,” “How to Select the First Wife,” and “How to Handle Women in Business.”
“Mead’s manual is a catchy and clever satire full of subversive and wacky advice that often has a wickedly funny ring of truth about it. In terms of tone, we're developing the film to have the feel of a modern Billy Wilder romantic comedy, something along the lines of a ‘Hitch’ or ‘Failure to Launch’,” said Turck, who is also producing the feature adaptation of John Grisham’s "The Partner" with Chartoff Productions and a miniseries adaptation of Gary Jennings’ "Aztec" with Alfonso Arau.
Turck and Lontscharitsch are currently in talks with scribes Dax Shelby and Robert Stevens to pen the adaptation. Shelby and Stevens currently have scripts in-development with Touchstone and Warner Bros. Pictures.
The Shepherd Mead estate is represented by Greenberg Traurig and Shelby and Stevens are managed by Madhouse Entertainment.
