Feb. 19, 2010 - PRLog -- RICHMOND, CA: Transition US is excited to announce that the Richmond Rivets have become the 57th official Transition Initiative in the United States.  Transition Initiatives start when a small collection of motivated individuals within a community come together with a shared concern: how can our communities responds to the challenges and opportunities of peak oil, climate change and the economic crisis?  This small team of people begins by forming an initiating group and then adopts the Transition Model with the intention of engaging a significant proportion of the people in their community to kick off a Transition Initiative.

The Richmond Rivets’ initial contact person is Trish Clifford and their Initiating Group is comprised of a diverse set of individuals, each with deep roots in the local community.  “The Richmond Rivets are honored to be working in this diverse, exciting city that already has many assets including a vibrant local agriculture movement and a green mayor. We will be tapping into the ‘We can do it’ spirit that this city's Rosie the Riveters and everyone else exhibited during WWII and that remains a part of us today.”  When asked what exciting activities are being planned Ms. Clifford shared, “we are sponsoring a free fruit tree giveaway, a seed lending library and an Awakening the Dreamer Symposium/Transition Town event. We are also doing outreach to neighborhood councils and hosting information tables at a number of local events including two Farms in two Days that will be installing working farms at two local high schools.”
