From the moment a child is born, a life is forever changed. And for any parent, the desire for their little one to enjoy a happy and healthy life is a common goal. Yet, what happens when an unforeseen factor threatens to disrupt this dream?
At least 1 percent of all children in the United States are stricken with some form of autism. It is estimated that 1 in 110 births are affected and that the numbers are continuing to rise. However, studies are showing that early intervention is the key to combating this disability.
According to the Autism Society of America, “Early intervention is defined as services delivered to children from birth to age 3, and research shows that it has a dramatic impact on reducing the symptoms of autism spectrum disorders. Studies in early childhood development have shown that the youngest brains are the most flexible. In autism, we see that intensive early intervention yields a tremendous amount of progress in children by the time they enter kindergarten, often reducing the need for intensive supports.”
