These works do not depict a specific subject or things or person; instead it lets our visionary images and some subtle change in repeated images which just give a feeling like in a half-awake dream and some narratives that can be quietly shared with the viewers.”
Nguyen Tan Cuong was born in Hanoi, Vietnam in 1953. He currently lives and works in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Graduated from the Saigon Fine Arts Collage in 1973, Nguyen Tan Cuong is a master at manipulating light. He builds up a texture on the canvas and then creates dynamic and compelling paintings through rich imagery and texture. He makes much use of rough, natural fibre in his work, which gives them an organic quality that is both visual and tangible. There is a raw elegance and sensuality in this body of work. His work is not entirely abstract yet there are rarely recognizable images.
He has participated in several exhibitions in Vietnam and also taken part in shows in Japan (1994, 1996), Switzerland (1995), Singapore (1995, 1997), Philippines (1996), Belgium (1997), Korea (1998), Italy (1998), USA (1997, 1998, 2003), England (2006), Canada (2008).
