United States has offered FBI help in the investigation into the Pune bomb blast. Timothy J Roemer (US Ambassador to India ), on Wednesday said his country has offered “help” after the Pune attack, which has left 11 people dead and many injured.

“If the Indian government, at some point, wants any help, want any assistance, whether it’s FBI assistance or other kinds of help, we are welcome to work with them,” he told reporters here.

he said: “We will continue to entertain and evaluate all the leads as they go forward”, on David Coleman Headley connection to the Pune blast.

Highly placed sources today said the plan of exploding the high-intensity bomb at the German Bakery was executed by some local terror modules with help from outside Maharashtra.

“Investigation is on right track. More or less we have identified the people behind the blast. It has some links with Headley’s visit to Pune,” a senior official said.

According to the investigators, Headley had moved to Pune from Goa to carry out a recee of the area around Koregaon Park. The area is also home to a Jewish prayer house.

Police also questioned around 30 people who had a history of association with banned SIMI organisation but have drawn a blank so far, the sources said.

The explosive material – RDX and Ammonium Nitrate – did not bear the signature of earlier blasts, including at Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Delhi and the “packing” of explosive material is of such a high quality that even forensic experts have not been able to pick a single clue about its timer.

Earlier, al-Qaeda affiliated jihadist leader Illyas Kashmiri was reported to have sent an e-mail to a Pakistani journalist, claiming responsibility for the attack.

Even as Maharashtra police investigators said little progress was made in identifying the perpetrators of Saturday’s bombing of the German Bakery in Pune, an unknown Pakistan-based jihadist group has claimed responsibility for the attack that claimed 10 lives.

But the Home Minister P Chidambaram had said that it’s too early to say who was responsible for the attack.
