Air Travel Threatened By Undetectable Bombs

Surgically implanted body-bombs create a new threat in the war on terrorism.

PRLog (Press Release) - Feb 19, 2010 -
Britain’s MI5 intelligence service reports that just hours after the aborted terrorist attack on Christmas Day to blow up a plane, Britain’s global eavesdropping ‘spy in the sky’ agency (GCHQ) began picking up ‘chatter’ coming out of Pakistan and Yemen , discussing lethal breast implants, on Arab websites.

Muslim doctors, who were trained at leading UK teaching hospitals, are returning to their native countries to perform surgeries that involve inserting plastic implants containing PETN (pentaerythritol Tetrabitrate) explosives into women’s breasts and men’s bodies, using the buttocks, or appendix areas, said MI5 operatives.

In December 2001, PETN was used Richard Reid, by the British shoe-bomber, who tried unsuccessfully to blow up an American airliner. London-educated Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab came very close to blowing up an airliner over Detroit on Christmas Day, when he tried to inject TATP from a syringe, so as to detonate the explosives he had stuffed inside his underpants. Fortunately the fluid ignited his clothes instead of detonating the explosives, for the 280 passengers onboard.

Surgeons from the UK’s National Health Service agree that plastic implants are virtually impossible to detect by the normal airport scanning machines. Head of MI5, Jonathan Evans, said that the body-bombers pose a serious threat to security.

Evans has appointed a hand-picked team to investigate a threat which he said “Can circumvent our defense, given that the explosive would be inserted in a sealed plastic sachet and would be such a small amount, would make it all the more impossible to spot”.

Eight ounces of PETN could penetrate five inches of armour. Explosive experts at Britain’s Porton Down biological and chemical warfare research centre estimate that just five ounces of PETN in a plastic sachet inside a bomber’s body could easily blow a large enough hole in a fuselage to crash a plane.

The explosives could be detonated using a hypodermic syringe to inject TATP (Triacetone Triperoxide) through his or her skin into the explosives sachet. The concern is that it would appear to be a diabetic injecting him/herself.

The urgency now is for more high specification X-ray machines, which can detect body bombs, be placed in ‘hot spots’. However, an argument has erupted over whether or not the new machines violate the individual’s right of privacy.

Note to Editor
Air Travel authorities face a new nightmare with surgically implanted body-bombs.
