You can get job training and preparation NOW with Parkland College's new Industrial Utility Worker course, being offered in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. There are currently 23 entry-level construction jobs available on Saskjob's website in Yorkton and area, and you can be prepared for your employment!
This 8 week course will include 6 weeks of classroom theory and training in:
- Construction Safety
- Blueprint Reading
- Building Materials
- Scaffolding
- Rigging and Slinging
- Hand and Power Tools
- Structural Steel, Concrete, Insulating and Cladding of Buildings
Completion of the classroom portion will include training and certification in several Construction Safety tickets and certifications including OH&S legislations, CSTS training, First Aid and CPR, WHMIS, Fall Protection for Industrial, Confined Space Entry and Rescue, Fire Safety and Fire Extinguishers, Power Mobile Equipment (PME), Tag-Out/Lock-
Most construction jobs available today require the above safety tickets and classes prior to starting work at a project site. The various building materials used in industry construction will be covered as well as basic blueprint reading and trades math. Completing this program will give all job-seekers a great advantage when applying for employment in mines, mills, plant and facilities expansions or new construction.
Thanks to many area industries, a 2 week Industry Placement Program will give students the onsite and hands-on experience needed to further enhance their training. The program is scheduled to start on March 22nd, 2010 and runs Mondays through Fridays until May 14th, 2010.
